Dr. Corey F. Burak is definitive proof that every so often, the acorn truly does fall close to the tree. His father — Dr. George Burak — performed the first total-hip replacement at Westchester County’s Phelps Memorial Hospital in 1969.
Today, his son Corey is recognized as a pioneer in the revolutionary anterior total-hip replacement surgical approach. He is also the man who, in partnership with Hudson Valley Bone & Joint Surgeons (HVBJ), brought the procedure to the same Phelps Memorial Hospital where his father operated more than four decades ago.
Dr. Corey Burak has performed close to 1000 successful surgeries at Phelps, including 100 bilateral surgeries. When he’s not in the operating room, Dr. Burak serves as instructor and educator to the myriad of other physicians trying to learn the technique and speaks at numerous conferences across the country. Furthermore, his website serves as a leading visitation destination for the medical community to garner information about anterior total-hip replacement surgery.
Board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Corey F. Burak, M.D., received his Doctor of Medicine Degree from SUNY–HSC at Syracuse College of Medicine in New York. He ranked 244 (98th percentile) for USMLE Step I; 243 (97th percentile) for USMLE Step II; and passed ABOS Part 1 in the 98th percentile. Dr. Burak served his general surgery internship at Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York City and his orthopedic surgery residency at Tulane University Hospital and Medical Center in New Orleans. It was at Tulane where he completed a research fellowship in adult reconstruction under the renowned Dr. Robert L. Barrack.
In addition, Dr. Burak completed a fellowship in hip and knee arthroplasty at Dorr Arthritis Institute in Los Angeles and received the Rockwood and Green Award in 2002.
